About Nancy Roane, MSS, LISW, PhD

Nancy Roane is an LISW therapist at Psychworks Clinic. 

She is a graduate of Bryn Mawr Graduate school of Social Work & Social Research. 

In her own words: 

I help individuals and couples who are seeking change but not sure where to start. People who have tried everything and maybe even made some progress, but nothing

seems to stick. Or they notice a nagging feeling that there could be more. Or worry that others see things about them that they can’t see themselves.

I strive to understand people deeply, and I partner with them to figure out next steps. This may look like recalibrating the mind, addressing physical symptoms like anxiety or chronic pain, or repatterning painful relationship cycles. I have experience helping with

anxiety, depression, stress, mood disorders, chronic pain, relationship problems, grief, loss of meaning, and trauma. My approach uses evidence-based practices to tailor the

work to each individual, drawing from psychodynamic, trauma-informed, emotion- focused, cognitive-behavioral, and somatic approaches. I help people gradually

restructure their patterns that keep them stuck. We won’t focus on quick fixes. We will focus on deep, lasting change. I work with teenagers, adults, and couples. I welcome all

identities and walks of life.

I have specialized training in chronic pain, working with difficult or overwhelming feelings, and complex trauma. I also hold a PhD in literature, and have extensively

studied philosophy, theories on human nature, and the healing possibilities of narrative and creativity. I obtain ongoing training and supervision in psychodynamic (depth-oriented) therapies. My therapeutic approach is a blend of depth- and process-oriented work, meaning we connect the here-and-now to longstanding patterns, many of which may be outside conscious awareness. This will look like leaving sessions not just with new ideas or perspectives, but with greater access to feelings, deep parts of the self, and renewed energy.
