Talawanda Teen Group

Supporting Students who are using Substances

The Talawanda Teen Group is a safe and confidential space for high school students at Talawanda who are facing challenges related to substance use, such as vaping, THC carts, alcohol, or other substances. Our goal is to provide support, education, and a judgment-free environment where teens can openly discuss their experiences and work toward healthier choices.

Meeting Time and Location

The group meets every Friday at 4 PM at Psychworks Oxford and is led by Dr. Ritch Hall, a licensed therapist with extensive experience in adolescent mental health and substance recovery. Sessions are carefully designed to help teens explore the reasons behind their substance use and to build coping strategies that empower them to make positive changes.

What Parents Can Expect

We understand that sending your teen to a therapy group can come with concerns, so we want to offer transparency while respecting confidentiality. Here's what you can expect:

  • Confidentiality and Trust: All group discussions are completely confidential, and no information is shared with Talawanda High School or other entities. This ensures a safe environment for students to express themselves freely without fear of judgment or repercussions.
  • Supportive Environment: The group fosters a collaborative, non-judgmental atmosphere where teens can share their experiences and feel understood. Dr. Hall uses evidence-based approaches to guide discussions and encourage self-reflection.
  • Goal-Oriented Structure: Each session includes a blend of open discussion and structured activities designed to help teens learn about the impact of substances on their lives and how they can take steps toward recovery.
  • Parental Involvement: While group sessions are confidential, we encourage parents to reach out with any questions or concerns. If appropriate, Dr. Hall may offer general guidance to families to help support their teens at home.

Free Thanks to Community Support

Thanks to a generous grant, this group is free of charge for all students within the Talawanda School District. We believe that every teen deserves access to quality mental health care, especially when facing challenges as significant as substance use.
